Kath. Kinderkrankenhaus Wilhelmstift
Restructuring of the Neonatal and Infant care unit
The Restructuring of Infant care unit at Kath. Kinderkrankenhaus Wilhelmstift in Hamburg Rahlstedt enables the Wilhelmstift to provide modern pediatric care. Changes to the cubature, restructuring and more efficient use of space improved operational processes and enabled parents to stay in with their babies. From a neonatological point of view, accommodating parents is essential for early parent-child bonding and the acquisition of parental skills, and should therefore be guaranteed in high-quality modern care. The modification of the building volume and thus also of the roof structure was necessary, because simply upgrading the roof construction was not feasible for structural and fire safety reasons and would not have resulted in any gain in usable space without a comprehensive structural reorganisation.
The project was funded by public resources.
